SƠN TRUNG * UNCLE FOX'S LIFE

SƠN TRUNG * UNCLE FOX'S LIFE

UNCLE FOX'S LIFE
I. INTRODUCTION

In Vietnamese, Hồ is a family name. It is also the name of fox, a wicked animal. Bác Hồ means Uncle  Fox, and Chí Minh means very smart, very crafty. Hồ Chí Minh means Mr.Crafty Fox. This is the official name he chose, and a destiny name!
In this essay, I write about life of Uncle Fox, based on the Memoir of Professor Nguyễn Đăng Mạnh, a Vietnamese communist. He was a famous professor awarded the tittle "teacher of people". His work entitled "Memoir" hurting some Vietnamese important personals but he was safe, not be imprisoned as the writers in Nhân Văn Giai Phẩm movement.
In  chapter V  of  his work, he wrote about Uncle Fox. I like his work and this chapter, so I will analyze and explain it.

II. UNCLE FOX 'S NATURE

According to Professor Nguyễn Đặng Mạnh, Uncle Fox was an excellent actor on the political stage and his life. He wrote:"    By the  political reason , he must to play act.  He was not happy and had no freedom to do that, but nobody understood him. Histrionics  could  effect on the commonage  but  had no effect on the intellectuals.(1)

On the contrary, I think that Uncle Fox was very happy to do that. To play act is a cultural language bụt in fact it is to deceive.  Deceiving is the nature of  the communists in the wsorld as President Mikhail Gorbachev said :"I have devoted half of my life for communism. Today, I am sad to say that The Communist Party only spreads propaganda and deceives."
Indeed, it is easy to deceive the commonage but it is difficult to cheat the intellectuals. Communists cannot defraud everybody in everytime and eveywhere. Life of Uncle Fox is  a range of deceits. Uncle Fox was a king of deceivers. So were is followers.  Uncle Fox was a king of deceivers. So were his followers. Uncle Fox' s nature is the nature of the wicked fox. The following facts are his tricks

III. UNCLE FOX AND HIS ACTIVITIES

1.UNCLE FOX AND HIS POLITICALCAREER

Professor Nguyễn Đăng Mạnh tells us an interesting  news. Before going to France, uncle Fox had gone to China by a Nghê An boat  with the help of Phan Bội Châu' s organization (2). Thanks to Professor  Nguyễn Thế Anh and Professor Vũ Ngự Chiêu for revealing  his two letters  sending to the President of France and the Minister of Colony, we know his aim to travel  Europe is to pursue  fame and fortune, not to save his country as he proclaimed. So his aim to China is the same. At last, he chose Europe because Europe is wealthier than China.  Unfortunately, the French colonists didn't accept him, he had to follow Stalin and Comintern. Therefore, he became a lackey of communism .

 2. UNCLE FOX  IN THE GUANGXI  PRISON AND THE  DIARY IN PRISON

In 1960,  the Diary of Prison by Uncle Fox was published by  the Publisher Văn Hóa, Hà Nội. The  writer who first  criticized this work was Professor Lê Hữu Mục, a former professor at The Faculty of Pedagogy Saigon before 1975. Professor Lê assumed that this work had an illicit background:
(1). The Black aim of Vietnamese Communists

Life of Uncle Fox ( Những mẩu chuyện về đời hoạt động của Hồ Chủ tịch ) by Trần Dân Tiên was first published in China in1948 , and in Paris in 1949. In this work,  Trần Dân Tiên  told us   his time  in  Guangxi  prison, where sometimes he wrote some poems,  but he didn't tell us about this work, especially it name.
In 1951, Tố Hữu  tried to advertise Uncle Fox, and he praised the literature talent of his boss, but he didn't mention  the work of his chairman  at all .
After destroying Nhân Văn Giai Phẩm movement, Tố Hữu made an attempt to  promote  Uncle Fox, As a result, The Diary of Prison was published in 1960.

(2.) The black source of Diary of Prison
There are many sources of Diary of Prison:
+ This work was missed. but in fact, Uncle Fox kept it, then sent to Mr. Nguyễn Việt for an exibit in Bich Câu street, Hanoi (3)
+ A mountaineer  found this work, and he went to Hanoi and gave to the Communist authority.
This work was written in Chinese,  had no author name, why he sent to Hanoi, not Peking?(4)
+Uncle Hồ kept his manuscrit then entrusted to Hồ Viết Thắng, later, he returned to Uncle Fox.(5).

(3). Uncle Fox's Chinese ability
About 1958, Uncle Fox could write about 30 trivial poems in Vietnamese. How he could write more than 100 poems in Chinese in one year? (6)
+ In my opinion,  Uncle Fox didn't finish his elementary eduction in Quốc Ngữ and French. He had studied Chinese at home with his father, but his Chinese was very poor. His Chinese was at the elementary  level. At that time, the old Vietnamese education was nearly retrograded when the new eduction began to develop. The writers in the prosperous Nguyễn  dynasty such as Phan Thanh Giản, Cao Bá Quát, Nguyễn Văn Siêu, Tùng Thiện Vương, Tuy Lý Vương had many poetry works, but after that time, time of weak Nguyễn  dynasty, Huỳnh Thuc Kháng, Phan Chu Trinh, Tản Đà, Phan Khôi, Phan Mạnh Danh, Thúc GiạThị...had no great poetry works in Chinese. Uncle Fox's Chinese  couldn't be  compared to Tản Đà, Bùi Kỷ, Phan Khôi.

In " Hồ Chí Minh, The Missing Years". Sophie Quinn Jude said Ho Chí died in Moscow (7)
She also told to BBC that in 1930s. during Stalin purge , Uncle Fox was in Moscow, so he couldn't escape Stalin's sword.(8)
When Sophie Quinn Judge hesitating,   Hồ Tuấn Hùng 胡俊熊 hú jùn xióng confirmed that  Nguyễn Tất Thành (Nguyễn Ái Quốc, Hồ Chí Minh) died in 1932, as a consequence, Stalin and Mao Tsetung replaced Hồ Chí Minh by Hồ Tập Chương 胡集璋 hú jí zhang, a Taiwanese. Hồ Tuấn Hùng confirmed that:
+ Hồ Chí Minh (1890–1932) was  Nguyễn Ái Quốc , a Vietnamese.
+ Hồ Chí Minh (1933–1969) was Hồ Tập Chương, a Taiwanese.(9)
Thus the author of Prison s 'Diary was Hồ Tập Chương, not Nguyễn Tất Thành (Nguyễn Ái Quốc).

Hồ Tuấn Hùng raised the following reasons:
+Hồ Tập Chương and Hồ Chí Minh worked together in 1930s for the International Communism in the Far East. They had the mission to  establish the  Vietnamese Communist Party. Hồ Tập Chương and Hồ Chí Minh had the same alias  PC.Lin, Hồ Quang.
(By this fact, we can conclude that Mao Tsetung had prepared longtime for this fraudulence in order to invade Vietnam and Asia).
+ According to Hồ Tuấn Hùng, William J. Duiker wrote that  in 1927, in Guangzhou,  Nguyễn Tất Thành  began to study Chinese. He needed  a teacher of Chinese  so he married a Chinese woman when Han Suyin in "Eldest Son: Zhou Enlai and the Making of Modern China, 1898-1976 (2004), said that in 1925, Mrs Thai Chang, and Mrs Deng Yingchao taught Chinese to Nguyễn Ái Quốc (10)

But in " the Travel Lư Sơn", in 1959, Hồ Chí Minh could write Chinese by finger(10)
+Before 1932, Nguyễn Ái Quốc couldn't write a word, but after he came back from Russia, in 1938, he could write some articles, poems and calligraphy.
+By the documents in Moscow, Hồ Tuấn Hùng realized that  for  5 years in Moscow, Hồ Tập Chương studied Vietnamese, French. If he was Nguyễn Ái Quốc , did he studied Vietnamese or Chinese?

By this fact, we can ascertained that the man named Hồ Chí Minh in Moscow from 1933 to 1938 was Hồ Tập Chương, not Nguyễn Ái Quốc. Therefore the author of The Diary in Prison was Hồ Tập Chương or another Chinese, not Nguyễn Tất Thành (Nguyễn Ái Quốc).

(4). In the Guangxi Prison

According to Professor Nguyễn Đăng Mạnh, Uncle Fox was arrested in Guangxi because he had a lot US dollars.(11)
But Uncle Fox recounted in his Memoir that he was imprisoned  by Chinese Kuomintang police  because he was suspected to demolish
Việt Nam Cách Mạng Đồng Minh hội (Vietnam Revolutionary League )(12).
This fact revealed  two things:
+Why did Uncle Fox and Nguyễn Đăng Mạnh raise two different reasons of Uncle Fox's arrest in Guangxi?
+Communists wrote that Uncle Fox established Vietnam Revolutionary League and Vietnam Independence League, but in fact, Vietnam Revolutionary League was organized by Nguyễn Hải Thần, and Vietnam Independence League  by Hồ Học Lãm. Uncle Fox always destroyed and seized the Vietnamese nationalist organizations for his Communist party.

When Tố Hữu and his men applauded eagerly his chairman, Đặng Thai Mai still had a lot of doubt about the lines of number on the cover of Diary of Prison. He asked his son in law, general Võ Nguyên Giáp, and Giáp replied:

"When Uncle Fox went abroad, we also went abroad. One day we received a letter from Pham Văn Đồng informing that Uncle Fox died. Later, when  reading  a newspaper, we saw some lines written by Uncle Fox telling that that he was safe.  That bad news made us sad for some months. When we went to Chợ Rã, Đông Viên, Nghĩa Tá, then came back Cao Bằng on time of Tết. That was February 5th, 1943.(13)
Thus, Uncle Fox war imprisoned for some months, not 13 months or 14 months as he said,  and he was released before February 5th, 1943.
Uncle Fox didn't answer Đặng Thai Mai, but he did to Mr.Hồ Đức Thành" I want to deceive people. I don't care what they explain and  what they understand!(14)

Uncle Fox was not the author of Diary of Prison . It was a work of Hồ Tập Chương or another Chinese. Anyway, this work presented a lot of deception of Vietnamese Communists.

3.UNCLE FOX IN DAILY LIFE

Professor Nguyễn Đăng Mạnh stated that Uncle Fox used  to like smoking tobacco, but he preferred the foreign cigarette, especially the American tobacco. He was criticised by his comrades so he quited the foreign cigarette. But he coughed very much. As a consequence, his comrades let him smoke the foreign cigarette freely. Mr. Hoàng Tuệ told me that in  the first  Indochina war, when  he went by night for a mission , he saw a group of persons escorted by the soldiers transporting the foreign tobacco from the French occupied zone to the liberated area for Uncle Fox's need. Artist  Dương Bích Liên stated that when in the northern Vietnam he lived with Uncle Fox, he saw Uncle Fox smoking the foreign cigarette,  drinking the French wine, and using the fresh milk which came from the   cows raised  for him. According to  Tô Hoài, Trần Đăng Ninh recounted that in the Chairman Palace,  he saw Uncle Fox sometimes wearing suits and  holding a cane  while walking in the garden.  Thus can illustrated that Uncle Fox didn't like  an austere life  of war , but he likes a luxurious life of  the French colonialists ! (15)

Uncle Fox always told lies. He always presented his simple life to people such as he always wore a old and faded  khaki shirt with pair of  tired  sandals. He always urged people to use domestic products, and live an austere life.

He hid his smoking the foreign tobacco but a number of people  such as Hoàng Văn Chí, Nguyễn Tường Bách,  Bảo Đại .. knew his tricks. (16)

4. UNCLE FOX IN THE  ROLE OF AN ASCETIC  SAINT

Vietnamese communist party spread propaganda to celebrate Uncle Fox as a saint, who sacrificed his private life for the independence of Vietnam. Uncle Fox also praised himself many times. But on the contrary, there are many stories about his sexuality, his lovers and his wives.
In January of 1951, Hồ Chí Minh visited the brigade Sông Lô. Before leaving, he asked:" Any question?" A soldier asked: "
Why did you not have a wife? ". Hồ answered:" Although I do not get married yet, I have a big family, that is my people, included your brigade." Every body clapped their hands merrily" When moving to the North, lawyer Nguyễn Thành Vĩnh asked Hồ Chí Minh:" You went to many countries, and met many women. Why do you not marry? Nobody was suitable for you? ?" Hồ said:"I kown that you have a wife and three children. Do you take care of them? The lawyer said yes. Hồ Chí Minh replied:" If I have a family, I do not have time for my people!" (17)
Nguyễn Đăng Mạnh wrote that " Uncle Fox didn't tell lie, he didn't want to be a saint, he wanted to be a simple person"(18).

Nguyễn Đăng Mạnh protected his leader, but many facts betrayed him. Hoàng Tranh , a Chinese professor, in his book entitled " Hồ Chí Minh and China", published by Tân Tinh, in Nam Ninh in 1990, wrote : When he was still alive, Hồ Chí Minh had a celibate life but in fact he had a wife. In October of 1926, Hồ Chí Minh married Tăng Tuyết Minh and they organized a wedding celebration in Guǎngzhōu where they lived together until May of 1927, Hồ left Guǎngzhōu and his wife. (19).
Yes, he could live a simple life with his wife and his son. Why did he tell lie? He had wives and sons why he said he lead a celibate life  to serve his people?
Hồ Tuấn Hùng cited a lot of Hồ Chí Minh's lovers and wives such as Bố Lạc Nhĩ, Bố Nhĩ Đông, Đỗ Lệ Hoa, Nguyễn Thanh Linh,Tăng Tuyết Minh, Lâm Y Lan, Đỗ Thị Lạc, Nông Thị Xuân (20)
In addition to those works, some Vietnamese writers presented to us a tragic panorama of Hồ Chí Minh' sexual life.
Nguyễn Đăng Mạnh also mentioned two women, Nguyễn Thị Hằng and Nông Thị Xuân.

(1). NGUYỄNTHỊ HẰNG

When Hồ Chí Minh came back to Vietnam, and lived in the Vietnam-China border where he lived with many teenage girls, so he  was guilty of child sex. When he lived in the the Presidential Palace in Hanoi, he also continued the life of a wild sex king.

Nguyễn Thị Hằng was a guerrilar participating in 1956 to  shot the US air crafts in the battle Hàm Rồng (Thanh Hóa province). She and Ngô Thị Tuyển were praised as the excellent soldiers. She was called to Presidential Palace in Hanoi to meet Uncle Fox. When Uncle Fox met her,  the first question instead  he  praised her achievement ,  he asked her was:"Do you want to pee?  Go with me. I will show you  the washroom."(21)
- Why Uncle asked her that question? Why did  he want to conduct her   to the washroom?  That was the work of the servants in the Chairman Palace to  help the guests,  not the work of  a Chairman . Was he  a debauched man  in a hasty action?
- Why were there  no employees in the reception room of the Chairman? Did he  want to do freely   with girls and women,  as a consequence,   he  prohibited the presence of their employees?

His lubricity and his life style also passed down to his men. Vũ Kỳ, his secretary imitated  the way of Uncle Fox's  dressing and speaking. When I met Vũ Kỳ, he asked me:"  How many women do you have in your group? Writer Nguyễn Khải  also met Vũ Kỳ  and he have the same idea with me about Uncle Fox's men.  The proverb is right  when it said " Like boss like servant" . I think that the king's servants and  the ordinary people's servants are the same in everytime  and everywhere. (22)

 (2). NÔNG THỊ XUÂN

In these ethnic minority girls, Hồ loved two girls: Nông Thị Ngát and Nông Thị Xuân were the best. Nông Thị Ngát was Nông Đức Mạnh's mother, Nông Thị Xuân, Nguyễn Tất Trung's mother. Nông Thị Xuân demanded Hồ recognize her as his official wife, but Hồ did not accept her request. So did the Vietnamese communist party leaders. As a result, Trần Quốc Hoàn, Hồ 's Ministry of Security, rapped her, killed her, and threw her body in the street in Hanoi. Trần Quốc Hoàn also killed two Nông Thị Xuân 'sisters, Nông Thị Nguyệt and Nông Thị Vàng.  According to Nguyễn Đăng Mạnh, many Vietnamese writers and politicians such as Vũ Thư Hiên, Ngô Thúc Lanh, Văn Tân, Dương Thư Hương, Trần Độ knew that fact.(23)

IV. CONCLUSION

Mikhail Sergeyevich Gorbachev said: "The Communist Party only spreads propaganda and deceives", so we can say"Uncle Fox and the Vietnamese Communist Party always spread propaganda and deceives. Uncle Fox was a liar. He always told lie. What he said and what he did are not  the same. He told he was a writer but in fact, he was a literary theft. He played a role of a thrifty leader as he always wore a old and faded  khaki shirt with pair of  tired  sandals. He always urged people to use domestic products, and live an austere life, but he used to smoke the foreign cigarette, drink French wine and he always wanted to live in the luxurious life. He proclaimed he was a celibate, he  sacrificed his private life for the independence of Vietnam, but in fact he had a dozen wives and lovers.
Vietnamese people don't demand their leader must be a saint, or an ascetic monk. They need the truthful politicians, they hate the liars and the tyrants. He was a liar. Moreover, he committed the child sexual abuse and murder. In a word, Hồ Chí Minh was not a saint, but a green bear ghost. And he also committed genocide.
